Question 1: What do you think is ONE of the most important characteristics that a teacher should have?
Question 2: Do you always make friends who have different interests from you? Why?
Question 3: The school has recently carried out a new policy that the maximum books that a student can loan for one time is reduced from 30 to 10, and will increase the number of copy machines in the library. The man holds a totally positive attitude towards this news. Firstly, when he was assigned a homework to write an essay in the past, he found out that all the books related to the topic assigned were all on loan, merely because every student can borrow 30 books at a time. He thinks it's totally unnecessary. More importantly, sometimes students only need few pages or chapters in the books, so they can just copy those information they want by using the xerox machine.
Question 4: The passage is talking about Abalene Paradox, which is a behavior that none of the individuals intended to do because they only wanna please others. The professor mostly talks about a psycological behavior called Abalene Paradox. She (or He??) explains this theory by presenting a example of a family. All three members in the family are having a great time staying together and are really comfortable. The dad then comes up with an idea to go downtown and have dinner in the restaurant nereby. Though the mom thinks it's gonna be a boring long way, she still agreed because she thought that's what he wants. The daughter doesn't wanna go there either, but she doesn't wanna let her parents down, so she says yes anyway. After the trip, all of the three think that it was exhausted and the dinner is terrible. Then the daughter and the mom said their original thoughts. Finally, the dad said that he wanted to go there only because he thought it's boring to just sit at home.
Question 5: In the conversation, the woman says that she broke her leg in the soccer team, so she will not be able to drive at all for a couple of months, but she has to go in town to do the teaching stuff. The first way she thinks is just to take a cab every week, but that's gonna cost a lot of money. The second solution is that one of her friends would give her a ride, but in that way, her friend would have to wait for almost an hour as she is teaching the class. Present which solution do you prefer.
Question 6: The professor is mainly talking about how marine animals produce lights. The first example she gives is about deep-sea shrimps. They are those who only produce for a short period. When they are under attack, deep-sea shrimps will flash once to frighten the attacker, and then flash for the second time so that the attacker would have a temporily blind. The second example is that hatchetfish, which is always producing light because it makes them seem like sunshine. Why hatchetfish would do that is mainly because their predators always look for the dark shades when they hunt, so making hatchetfish more like sunlight which serves for camouflage.
